Key Fire Safety Tips for any Workplace

No matter type of business operations you conduct at your workplace, fire safety should always be a main concern. Below are a few key fire safety tips for any workplace that you can distribute to your staff.

Fire Prevention

Keep your work area free of waste paper, trash or any other items that could easily catch fire.

Keep heat producing equipment away from anything that might burn. This includes copiers, coffee machines, computers, etc.

Check on your electrical cords. If your cord is damaged in any way, it is always best to replace it. Avoid running cords in places where they can be stepped on, as this contributes to the deterioration of the protective outside coating.

Never overload your circuits.

Ensure you turn off your electrical appliances at the end of each day.

In the Event of a Fire

In the event of a fire, call the fire service immediately and don’t hang up on the emergency responder until you are told to do so.

Close any doors when exiting to help limit the spread of smoke and the fire throughout the building.

Never use elevators during an evacuation.

Follow the escape plan and meet at the per-determined place outside of your building and away from the danger. Fire Marshals should conduct a headcount to ensure all staff have been evacuated.

The best way to ensure the safety of your staff is always through fire prevention and preparation.
